APPLICATION FAQs:

HOW DOES THE APPLICATION PROCESS WORK?

Application rounds open each time we reach $30,000.

Each round, we will accept applications for 1 full week.

Application forms will be available online, as well as physically at P10, QPIRG Concordia, Head & Hands, and Hoodstock.

Once applications close, recipients will be selected at random until the funds run out ($30,000 = approximately 30-40 people).

Payment will be distributed by cheque, in person only.

There is no wait list: if you didn’t receive funding, you can reapply next round.

WHO SHOULD APPLY?

Please read about Black Healing Fund before applying.

We believe that no Black person should have to pay for mental health services in an anti-Black world, but we ask that specifically low-income Black people in the Tio'tia:ke / Montreal area apply for funding. With a limited amount to give, we seek to grant healing opportunities to our community members with less monetary access.

CAN I APPLY MORE THAN ONCE?

If you have already received funds from Black Healing Fund, we ask that you wait one full year before applying again. This current rule is subject to change, but for the time being we feel that this is the best way to increase the chances of funding folks who haven’t previously been selected.

If you have previously filled out an application, but have not been (randomly) selected to receive funds, you can apply again in the next application round.

HOW DO I KNOW WHICH AMOUNT TO SELECT?

Funding is being offered in the amounts of $500 or $1000.

We ask that applicants select the amount that best suits their needs (while being considerate of the fact that funds are limited and people applying experience varying levels of financial difficulty).

For example: If it’s for therapy sessions that cost $100 / session, and you plan on going to at least 10 sessions, you could apply for $1,000. If it’s for guided meditations that costs $20 / session, the $ 500 amount would afford you 25 sessions.

WHAT TYPES OF MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES COULD I USE THE FUNDS FOR?

Healing could look like many different things, and the needs of each applicant are unique.

Some of you might be seeking funds to continue on a healing journey that has already begun, and some of you might be looking to engage in therapy or alternative healing services (institutionalized, holistic, spiritual, etc.) for the first time.

Whatever your personal situation may be, Black Healing Fund is continuously expanding on a roster list of (predominantly Black and BIPOC) therapists and healers who  offer healing services / classes / products to people residing in the Tio'tia:ke / Montreal area, and we encourage applicants to refer to it to explore available options.
